Two old gold-mine pits, reborn as the upper and lower reservoirs of one of the most important energy storage projects in the country — with an underground powerhouse carved into the rock between them.

Kidston is Australia's first pumped hydro scheme in more than four decades, and the first ever developed by the private sector. When the grid has spare solar in the middle of the day, Kidston pumps water uphill; when the evening peak hits, it lets it fall and generates.

Giidjaa supplies and manages the electrical workforce for the project's delivery joint venture — our electricians, HV technicians and supervisors working underground in the powerhouse on switchgear, cabling, distribution and fit-off.

On the dry flats near Port Pirie, rows of batteries the size of shipping containers are teaching South Australia's grid to hold onto its sunshine — banking cheap midday solar and handing it back when the state needs it most.

Giidjaa crews delivered electrical works across the site's balance of plant — the substation gear, cabling and connections that turn a paddock of batteries into a power station.

Delivered for EPEC Group — and delivered properly. At the Wandoan South Solar Farm in Queensland's Western Downs, Giidjaa self-managed the South Bay electromechanical works for a new 275/33kV substation from construction right through to commissioning: disconnectors and earth switches assembled and installed, structures and primary plant erected, busbar and control cabling run, high-voltage testing and QA turnover completed to energisation. Under time, under budget, in under 14 weeks — the project that proves Giidjaa delivers substations end to end.

On the site of the former Swanbank B coal-fired power station in Ipswich, CleanCo's Swanbank Battery is one of Queensland's biggest — 250 MW / 500 MWh of Tesla Megapack storage, enough to power two-thirds of Ipswich for two hours every evening. Giidjaa crews worked alongside Yurika and JTMEC on the electrical infrastructure connecting the battery to the grid — coal country turned clean-energy hub, built by crews like ours. On the Rozelle Interchange — the final stage of WestConnex and Australia's largest road infrastructure project — Giidjaa delivered the FULL electrical design package for the interchange's permanent water treatment plant, then installed it: switchroom, MCCs, VSD walls, instrumentation and cable reticulation across the plant, successfully commissioned under time and under budget. Our accredited HV crews also delivered 33kV joints and terminations across the substation feeder network — workmanship that anchored Giidjaa's ASP Level 1 accreditation audit.

The Western Harbour Tunnel is one of Sydney's flagship transport projects, and Giidjaa crews are on it twice over. We delivered the full electrical installation for the project's three temporary water treatment plants — the immaculately dressed tray runs and services in these photos are that design done properly. And our jointers are delivering 58 terminations across the tunnel's 33kV network for JTMEC, with the 64 Raychem termination and joint kits supplied to match — supply and install, not just labour.

Clarke Creek Wind Farm

Clarke Creek is one of the biggest wind farms ever built in Australia — 450 MW across 100 turbines on Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala country in Central Queensland, powering around 330,000 homes. Giidjaa's HV jointing crew travelled from NSW to carry out 33kV cable jointing and terminations on the collector network that links the turbines to the grid, working construction shifts as a specialist subcontractor. An Indigenous-owned business helping build clean energy on Indigenous land.

An open-air high-voltage switchyard in Central Queensland, delivered in late 2025 alongside Yurika and JTMEC. Giidjaa crews carried out the HV electrical works across the yard — disconnectors, current transformers and marshalling boxes installed, wired and dressed to standard on the finished gravel pad. It is careful, methodical work done a long way from the city, and the standard of the finished yard helped win Giidjaa its next major switchyard project.

Deep beneath Sydney Olympic Park, the station box for Sydney Metro West needed serious light before tunnelling crews could work safely through the night. Working for Gamuda, Giidjaa crews installed twelve 600-watt LED floodlights around the rim of the box, transforming night visibility for the teams working below. Months later, Australia's first autonomous tunnel boring machines broke through into that same box — under lighting our team put there.

Before a tunnel boring machine can turn a single cutter, it needs power — serious power, built properly. Giidjaa crews delivered TBM electrical build and installation works with Gamuda on Sydney Metro West, the underground railway linking Parramatta to the Sydney CBD. It's the sharp end of tunnelling electrical work: high-voltage supply, distribution and control systems for some of the biggest machines in the country — and that's one of our own standing in front of it.

Four tunnel boring machines — Eileen, Peggy, Catherine and Marlene — carved 9.8 kilometres of twin metro tunnels for the new line to Western Sydney International Airport. Before any of them could turn a cutter, they had to be built and powered. Giidjaa crews delivered TBM electrical build works with CPB Contractors on the Station Boxes and Tunnelling package — supply, distribution and control systems assembled and installed on some of the biggest machines in the country.
